A JAPANESE INTERN IN SINGAPORE-WEEKLY DIARY: WEEK5

Week1 / Week2 / Week3 / Week4 / Week5

Visited My Dream University!?

Hi ? I’m back again with interesting topics to share with you today!

I cannot wait to share with you,

so let’s go ahead and start my week 5’s diary!!! ???

Last weekend, I went to National Museum of Singapore!

I had been planning to go there before I came to Singapore

(because it was on a Japanese guide book)

Personally, I enjoy going to museum or those kinds of things,

but I felt like everyone can enjoy this museum!

The ticket was SGD 15.00 for foreigners, but if you are a Singaporean or Permanent Resident,

it’s free to go in♪

The building was so beautiful.

The walls, roof, and everything were white and modern looking.

Last time I went to National Gallery, the guide told me the building was designed by a

French architecture.

The building also was designed awesome.

For this museum, I am not sure. There also was a guide tour option, but I did not join, because I wanted to spend time and walk slowly... haha ?

Inside the museum, there were more things to see than I expected.

The first time I got interested in living in Singapore was because I studied about its history at my university and I found it interesting.

At that time, I only learned modern history, but not much of old history like before Singapore became independent.

But this museum let me learn Singapore’s history from as old as 1290’s.

The exhibitions continued chronologically as I walk.

The most interesting part for me was Shonan-to period, when Japanese dominated.

For me as a young Japanese generation, it is crucial to learn and know the history.

Even if it is a dark and unpleasant past, it worth to have knowledge not to make it happen again.

But some of exhibitions gave me powerful impact and made me to think deeper about the past and what Japan had done.

There was a documentary interviewing on a 70 or 80-year-old man.

He experienced the time when Japan took control.

I believe he said he is above 70 years old but the surprising part is

he still remembers songs Japanese told him very clearly.

About 4 songs he sung, and his pronunciation and lyrics were all sounded correctly.

I was very surprised, and at the same time,

I realized that there was very strong power of ideology behind.

All the songs he sung sounded cheerful and rhymical, but were

either Japanese anthem or about how soldiers are great.

He must have kept singing or listening to over and over that he remembers until his 70th or 80th.

This helped me to understand more for my studies at my university because social science is the main field I am interested in.

One of my aims for this internship is also to enhance my knowledge I gained from courses I took at my university.

To go to this museum and learn about Singapore’s history helped me with my studies and

was very interesting for me?

After I had a great time at National Museum, I walked over to this church called Chjmes.

This church become one of my favorite building in Singapore because look!! ?

Like..how beautiful is this reflection on the wall…?

I could have stayed here for the whole day.

( I didn’t tho ? )

Anyways, this place was so chilling and is great for refreshing.

Last, but not at least...!!!!!

Guess where I went!

Singapore Management University aka SMU!

As I mentioned in the last article (week 4), I also wanted to study abroad to a university in Singapore.

SMU was one of it.

Though I could not go inside the building, I really enjoyed finally seeing my dream university?

The place was so huge and this university got many different departures!

I hope I can manage time to visit NUS and NTU sometime soon.. ?

See you next week~!!!
